PREPOSITION



Preposition

Preposition is a word which come before a noun (a pronoun) to show the noun’s (or the pronoun’s) relationship to another word in the sentence. (The word preposition comes from the idea of being positioned before. It is not true to say that a preposition always precedes a noun or a pronoun, but it does most of the time).
The most common prepositions are:
about, above, across, after, against, along, among, around, at, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond, but, by, despite, down, during, except, for, from, in, inside, into, like, near, of, off, on, onto, out, outside, over, past, since, throughout, till, to, toward, under, underneath, until, up, upon, with, within, and without.
Preposition sits before a noun to show the noun’s relationship to another word in the sentence.
For example:
·         It is a container for butter.
(the preposition for shows the relationship between butter and container).
·         The eagle soared above the clouds.
(the preposition above shoes the relationship between clouds and soared).

A preposition usually indicates the temporal, spatial or logical relationship of its object to the rest of the sentence,
For example:
·         The mobile is on the table.
·         The chair is beside the table
·         She sing the song during class.

In each of the preceding sentences, a preposition locates the noun “mobile” in space or in time.
Preposition are classified as simple or compound.
Simple prepositions is typical of preposition which more simple between the other typical of preposition. Simple preposition are single word prepositions,These are all showed above.
For example:
·         The mobile is on the table.
Compound prepositions
Compound preposition are preposition (which are words that indicate relationships between nouns, pronouns and other words in a sentence) made up of more than one word. In between and because of are prepositions made up of two words. They are also known as complex prepositions and include words such as on behalf of and because of.

For example:
·         My room is in between kitchen and toilet.
·         I read the poem in front of the class.
·         Because of you, I learned to play on the safe side.
·         We are pleased on behalf of the manufacturer sincerely apologize for this problem.
